Works with how you already hire

Job boards send you everyone. We bring you the few worth meeting.

Grain sits on top of whatever you already use. People apply the same way they do now. The difference is what happens next.

Where they apply
IndeedPoachedYour careers pageWalk-insQR at the host stand
What we do
We sort through them, check references, confirm their history with people who were there, and get the interviews booked.
What you do
Pick who you want
They come in for a shadowing day. That's it.

What operators ask.

What do I actually do here, and what do I get back?

You stop chasing applicants. Your applicants come into Grain from wherever you already post, like Indeed or a form on your site, without you lifting a finger. We vet every one and send you a shortlist of people ready to bring in for a shadowing day. You tell us who you want to meet. We schedule the interviews and make sure they show up on time. You just meet the ones we send.

I already use Indeed or a hiring app. Does Grain replace it?

Keep it. Indeed is good at getting you applicants. It can’t tell you which ones are any good. That’s what we do. You don’t change where you post. We pull the applicants from there and screen them for you.

I need someone this week. Does this slow me down?

It speeds you up, and it cuts out the first-round screening calls. Those run up to an hour each, and most go nowhere. We do that part for you. You see applicants the day they apply, already vetted. All you do is approve the shortlist. Then we bring those people in for a shadowing day, and we handle the messaging, scheduling, and coordinating. You get back all the hours you’d normally spend on calls and back-and-forth.

Who sets up the interviews, and what if someone flakes?

We do, that’s the point. Once you pick your shortlist, we reach out, find a time that works for both of you, and stay on the candidate so they actually show, confirming and reminding them right up to the day. If someone does fall through, you’re not back to square one. The rest of your shortlist is right there, and we keep the next ones moving. You’re never the one chasing anybody down.

Won’t another application step cost me applicants?

Good. The ones it scares off are usually the ones you don’t want anyway. The profile takes about ten minutes. Anyone can have AI write them a perfect resume in seconds now, so a resume barely tells you anything. Someone who spends ten minutes showing you where they’ve worked and putting their face on a video actually wants the job. Someone who won’t bother probably wasn’t going to show up for the shift either.

What do you actually verify?

The stuff on a resume that anyone can fake. We get the people who worked with someone to confirm they really worked there, in that role, over those dates. A real former coworker has to do it, so it’s a genuine check, not just the candidate’s word. Then we get a reference from their old manager on how they actually worked. Each profile shows what we’ve confirmed and what’s still unverified.

What if a manager never gets back to you, or the record is thin?

A missing reference never counts against the candidate. If a manager hasn’t answered yet, it shows as pending. Their coworker confirmations and their video still count. You can see what’s confirmed and what’s still out. We keep following up either way, so a slow manager doesn’t hold you up.

Is this a background check?

No, and don’t drop the one you use now. We check work history and get references from people who worked with the candidate. We don’t run criminal or credit checks. Keep doing those yourself. They’re a separate thing from what we do.

What does it cost?

Right now, nothing. We’re starting with a handful of restaurants, and it’s free for them. When we do start charging, you’ll pay when we actually save you a hire. Not for every resume we screen, and never a cut of what your staff earns. The places that start with us now help set the price.

Do these candidates come from you, or do I send my own?

Your own, for now. Everyone on your list applied to you directly. The profiles you see here are just samples of what a finished one looks like. Later on, we want restaurants on Grain to vouch for people to each other. So a good cook who got verified across town could show up on your list too. That part isn’t live yet.
